![]() I unfortunately was unable to cover the media event earlier this year, but we were able to get two rides on the Vekoma family coaster before the lines got unbearable (our Time Saver passes were not good for this coaster). As you would expect, Dollywood presents some of the most musically talented performers as you'll find in any theme park in the country. In passing, we also caught parts of a few of the shows staged outside. The later show is a constant barrage of carols from beginning to end, including an impressive rendition of Carol of the Bells with the cast spread across the full width of the massive stage. Throw in a b-story about some mice trying to sneak into the family's house to eat the cookies that are conveniently set out on Christmas Eve, and you've got a cute, funny, and heartwarming show that will bring a smile to the audience. ![]() The youngest daughter makes a wish for her siblings to make it home, which is magically answered by an older white-hair bearded gentleman. The former was centered around a family trying to gather at home for the holidays, but the family's military son and eldest college daughter were unable to catch their respective rides home for Christmas. We took time out of our day to watch T'was the Night Before Christmas and Christmas in the Smokies. Dollywood also heavily leans into the religious and more wholesome themes of Christmas with their entertainment. Liberty Peyton jumping on Liberty View west of Flume Slide Trail Geo Survey Marker on Mt.However, unlike other regional theme parks, the entire park and almost all of the rides (except for the water rides and Lightning Rod, which is down to convert to a chain lift) are open. We were off the trail at the trail head parking lot by 6 PM. Liberty and took a small break at the tent platforms. Washington, or so they thought, I dont think they knew what they were doing!! We descended Mt. We chatted with four other hikers who just graduated from Air Force ROTC and were hiking to Mt. Again, great views 360 degrees of the Lafayette Ridgeline to the north. Liberty around 3 PM and relaxed for a while, took off our packs and dried off. We lost sight of him and ran into some hikers taking a break who said that they saw someone sprint by them a while ago, it was Sky!!! Liberty in less than an hour, except for Skylar who took off running and made the stretch in probably 40 minutes. ![]() Flume after eating some lunch and were able to get to the summit of Mt. Liberty appeared to be very far away and there also appeared to be a great decent / ascent to the summit, that wasn’t the case. The weather was great, great views to the west and the Pemi Wilderness to the east. I figured out halfway up that you could skirt the trail on the left where the footing was better and there were trees to grab onto. Some of the rocks were wet and of any rocks from the lead hikers were loosened up they would come down on the heads of the hikers below. The rock wall was at a 45% grade with not much to grab onto and not many footholds. Mount Flume ranks 25th on the list of 48 NH 4000′ peaks and this particular loop is 9.9 miles. ![]() Sections of the Flume Slide are rated Class 3, requiring use of hands but not ropes. ![]() We heard about this section and read that this was the toughest trail in New Hampshire, the rumors were true, extremely hard. Nearing the two mile mark we hit the Flume Slide. The trail then became rocky with gravel and climbed steadily. The trail is an old logging road and climbed with easy grades for the first mile. We headed out at 9 AM on 8-5-14 up Flume Slide Trail. Bagged 2 more peaks yesterday with Skylar, Peyton and Sky’s friend Mike. ![]()
